Virginia Cobia

April 25, 1919 ~ October 2, 2007 (age 88)


 other Virginia "Eddie" Cobia, 88, waited patiently on the Lord three long years battling with the symptoms of Alzheimer disease. On Tuesday, October 23, 2007, God sent his angel of mercy to the Hospice & Palliative Care Center to bring her home.

Mother Cobia was one of twelve children born to the late Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Lou Black on April 25, 1919, in Summerton, SC. She later married to Mr. Ossie Cobia and was a lifelong member of Gum Spring Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as the Church Mother.

She was a loving wife, mother and friend whose favorite past time was talking about the goodness of Jesus and the power of prayer, young children played a special role in her life as she opened her home and taught them Bible Study-until age 83. She was known as the "Neighborhoods' Grandmother." She also helped raise 13 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband, parents, three children, ten siblings, one granddaughter, Trez Cobia, and one great -granddaughter, Jukiya Hayes all precedes her in death.

She was the mother of eight children, survivors include Milligan (Rose) Cobia of Baltimore, MD; R.E. (Ruby) cobia of Belle Glade, FL; Robert (Gloria) Cobia of Baltimore, MD; Rev. Wendell (Sylvia) Cobia of Summerton, Sc, Barbara Brailsford Green of High Point, NC (Owner of MESSIAH TOO!! CATERIING) 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; one sister who was also her best friend, Mrs. Katie Martin of Manning, SC; 3 godchildren, Allen and Monica Terry of High Point, NC; Rev. Thomas Rogers of Jamestown, NC and Susie Felder of Summerton, Sc; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
