Obituary

The earthly journey of Thelmarie Green Turner came to a close Tuesday, February 16, 2010.

Thelmarie was born August 31, 1935, in Glenola, North Carolina to the parents of Ezelle and Nannie Mae Green. She lived there with her parents, eldest sister, Ethel Mae and brother, James Floyd till the family moved to High Point, NC when Thelmarie, the youngest of her siblings, was 12 years old. They all resided in High Point through Thelmarie's school years while she attended High Point City Schools and eventually graduated from William Penn High School. Shortly after graduating, Thelmarie's parents moved to Cedar Square, her sister moved to Floridia, her brother joined the military service, but she remained a resident of High Point for the remainder of her days here on earth. While residing in High Point, Thelmarie met her future long-term husband, James Hoover Turner. During the course of this union, Thelmarie and James gave life to 9 children.

Thelmarie maintained a loving household for her family and was an avid, devoted and faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Thelmarie believed in working for the Lord to the fullest. She was pianist and member of the Senior Choir #1 and pianist for the Male Chorus, member of the Missionary Circle and a Sunday school teacher for the youth of the church. Thelmarie worked and retired as a custodian for Parkview Elementary of the Guilford County School System where she loved principal, teachers, her fellow workers and the children of the school. Preceding her death was her mother and father, Nannie Mae and Ezelle Green and her brother, James Floyd Green.

Surviving Marie, (as she was called by many), her loving husband, James Turner of High Point, and sister, Ethel Mae (Alfonzia) Augustus of Florida, her 9 children, Stevie of Kernersville, Audrey, James Warren, Sheila (James) Martin, Celeste, Ronald, Robert (Marsha), baby of the family, Michael, all of High Point and Sherman (Petra) of Germany. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, Vickki (Tony) Price, Lakisha, Dominique (Travis) Scott, Talia, Chelsea, Chiquita, Andrena (Darren) Toomer, Damien, Kenny, Alaina, Wil, Keanna, Kamron Jr., A'Carsia and Jada and 6 great grandchildren, Jayden, Anya, Zakyus, Lishawn, Alyssa and Akaiha and hosts of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of dear friends.
