High Point

Susie Ann Gaines Lovelace was born on May 9, 1952, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, to the late Walter Gaines Sr. and Sarah Harris Gaines. She made her peaceful transition to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Susie received her education at West Montgomery High School in Mount Gilead, NC. Early in life, she professed Christ as her Lord and Savior. After relocating to High Point, NC, she joined Living Waters Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devout member, proudly serving on the Usher Board for many years.

She dedicated years of hard work to SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center and Westchester Manor in housekeeping. Following her retirement, Susie continued her passion for serving others by working as a Foster Grandparent volunteer at the Macedonia Family Resource Center, bringing warmth and guidance to elementary school children. She truly delighted in community engagement and spent her life lifting up those around her. Above all, Susie cherished her family and friendships.

She treasured every moment spent with loved ones, shared laughs with friends, and had a lifelong passion for fashion. Susie was always dressed to perfection—to her; every day was an occasion for her "Sunday’s best." Susie will be remembered for her impeccable style, faith, friendships, her remarkable kindness, and her deep devotion to her family and church home.

Though she will be greatly missed, her love, light, and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Ivey Jean Foddrell, Loretta Little, and Lenette Harshaw; and one brother, Walter Gaines Jr.

Susie leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Mavida Smith (Kerry) of Garner, NC and LaToya Lovelace of High Point, NC; two granddaughters, Armani Fuller of High Point, NC and Kenzie Smith of Garner, NC; two grandsons, Kade Smith and Karter Smith of Garner, NC; one great-grandson, Major Fuller of High Point, NC, one great-granddaughter, A’jari Briggs of High Point, NC, two sisters, Blanche Peguese of High Point, NC, Margie Legrand of Mt. Gilead, NC; two brothers, Herbert Gaines (Geneva) and Burlee Gaines of Mt. Gilead, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
