Mr. Robert Dwight Boyd, Jr., (Sonny), 69, of High Point, N.C., fell asleep in death at his home on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023. Sonny entered this life on Monday, February 8th, 1954, the eldest child and only son of Robert Dwight Boyd, Sr. and Nannie Douglas Boyd, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jannie Sims Boyd, and a sister, Staci Lynne Boyd.
Sonny attended Dunbar Jr. High, completing his education at Rowan Sr. High where he was on the football team. He was a “BEAST” both on the field and on the court! He was an incredible artist and enjoyed assembling model cars, watching westerns and was a very good cook. He’d call Iris, and they’d ride to his favorite places, Mayflower Seafood Restaurant and Lexington Barbecue.
Sonny was “one of a kind.” We loved him and he never ended a phone call without saying, “I love you!” We are already missing his calls and hearing him say those three words. He loved reading his Bible and he believed the contents therein. He wholeheartedly believed what the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 10:9, “…that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” And of all the 66 Books of the Bible, Daniel was his favorite.
Robert adored his children and his grandbabies whom he has left to cherish his memories, and they are his sons, Robert K. Boyd and Bosy A. Boyd, both of Salisbury, his daughter, Tukeithia D. Sims Boyd of High Point, four grandchildren and five great grands. Four sisters remain, Melanie B. Jones (Bobby), Cheryl A. Boyd, and Iris J. Johnson, of High Point, and baby sister, Carmen M. Boyd of Cary, aunts, Mrs. Lula D. Burford of Greensboro and Mrs. Mary Lee Jones (George) of Salisbury, a host of other relatives and friends, and special friends who made every effort to be there when he needed them, Mr. Jimmy Taylor and Mr. Filmore Bailey and Betty, his wife. We’re very grateful to you and others for your acts of kindness to Sonny. May God bless you all.
