“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14 KJV
Mr. Reginald “Jerrod” Canty, known by his family as Jerrod and others as Slow, J-Rod, Bro Reggie, and BoCity.
Jerrod is the son of Leonard Canty and Betty Nelson Canty. Jerrod was born on August 19, 1986, in Thomasville, NC and died on July 21, 2024, at Atrium Health University City in Charlotte, NC.
Jerrod attended Thomasville City Schools and graduated from Thomasville High in 2004. Growing up Jerrod was a member of Freewill UME church. He knew God and was always reminded by his mother that no matter what was going on in his life to pray about it, and to trust and believe that God would take care of it.
He joined the US Navy after graduation and served for four years. He earned National Defense Service Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. Jerrod enjoyed serving his time in the Navy where he was able to travel the world and to places, he loved.
After returning from the Navy, he attended ECPI University for two years and earned his associate degree in computer science. He then began his working career and found his true love, which was truck driving and continued his passion for over 10 years.
Jerrod was known for his affectionate SMILE. He was a social bug and never met a stranger. To know him was to love him, to have talked to him could lead to a very deep conversation. Jerrod was Mr. Clean, he was always dressed to impress and decked out.
The family always received text messages, calls, and pictures from Jerrod for every birthday, holiday, and anniversary. He did not forget anyone’s birthday and would typically be the first person to send you those wishes.
Jerrod was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Canty and his maternal grandfather, James Johnson; and one uncle, Irving Canty.
Leaving to cherish his loving memories are his parents Leonard and Betty Canty of Thomasville, NC; two brothers, Lashaun Nelson (Lakelia) of Manning, SC, and Zachary Canty (Courtney) of Winston Salem, NC; his paternal grandmother, Camilla Canty of Rimini, SC and his maternal grandmother, Fannie Bell Johnson of Thomasville, NC; four nephews, Jordan, Justin, Jasiah, Zayden and two nieces Kelsey and Kenya; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
