Mrs. Shirley Douglas

April 23, 1950 — February 6, 2023

Mrs. Shirley Strickland Douglas, loving wife, sister, aunt, and mother of four; departed this earthly life at the age of 72 on February 6, 2023.

Shirley was born on April 23rd, 1950, in High Point, North Carolina to Mrs. Essie Strickland Murrell, and Mr. Herbert McMullen. Born and raised in the Christian faith, she attended and was a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church, under the Rev. DD. Mason, and Lawrence Curtis. She attended Guilford County public schools and William Penn High School.

Shirley worked at High Point Regional Medical Center and Howard Johnson hotel as a custodian for many years.

She had a passion for throwing the best family cookouts, where friends and loved ones would gather from all over. She really enjoyed and prided herself in, what she created as "The Family Traditional Independence Day Bash." which was always filled with laughter, love, food and good music. Everyone was welcomed, and no one was a stranger.

She also loved to play cards with her family and friends or just sitting on the front porch talking about the next hot topic or working with her beautiful flowers.

It was always a pleasure to watch her be so full of life and dance, having an amazing time.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Essie Murrell, her father: Herbert McMullen, her husband Alfred Douglas Sr., a son; Alfred Douglas Jr., and a daughter; Nancy Douglas. Three brothers; Ronnie and Roger Strickland, and Johnny Lee Murrell.

Left to cherish her beautiful; memory; one son; Mr. Alfonso Strickland of the home, one daughter; Tammie (Richard) Gibson of High Point NC. her sisters; Mrs. Barbara Franklin, Ms. Sandra Strickland, and Jacqueline Strickland all of High Point NC., and one uncle; Charles Strickland of Winston Salem NC., Grandchildren; Terrance Strickland, Nakita Douglas, Johneisha Strickland (Adrian Alexander), Shaerika Garland, Alfred Douglas III, Kushaina Shaw.  A Special friend (Phyllis). A host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
