Mother Mildred Matthews

Mildred Matthews was born February 18, 1935, in Rockingham, NC, to the late Eva Hamilton. She was an active member of Living Water Baptist Church for over 42 years. Mildred Matthews was on the Usher Board, Missionary Board, and the Motherhood Board all while raising six of her grandchildren and many other adopted children and grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Matthews, Sr.; three sons, Robert Lee Matthews, Jr., James Thomas Kirby, and Ernest Kirby; and one grandson. Mildred Matthews leaves behind two living children, Linda D. Matthews of High Point, NC, and Burnice Kirby of Lexington, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Katina Matthews, Sheree (Ernest) Grier, Linda L. Matthews, Jessica Baskins, Charese Matthews, Charles Matthews, Donnie (Anna) Matthews, Demetrius Matthews, Donte Young, Stacy (Steve) Deberry, Quentin Harrington, Micheal Gillis, and Keith Easterling; 29 great-grandchildren, Raheen Jr., Bre’Anna, Jazzmin, Kanesha, Dionna, Khaliah, Sha’Nya, Jayden, Eli, DeAndre, Avontae, Antonio, Carlos, Alyric, Jeremiah, Demoria, Tateanna, Quincy, Jahiem, RayDonte, Demarion, Tay’Lin, Desirae, Dorian, Darrian, Ja’Nyla, Keith Jr., Jacob, and Sarah; four great-great grandchildren, Kingston, Milani, Ayden, and Jace; great-great-granddaughter due in August, 2023; and a host of many other family and friends.
