Marion Streater, affectionately known by many as “Etta,” was born in North Carolina to Christine and Beverly “Buck” Streater. Though born in North Carolina, she was raised in New York, where she developed a spirit that was both grounded and adventurous. She was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age.
In the early 1970s, Marion moved to Phoenix, a place that would always hold a special place in her heart. In 1986, she returned to the East Coast, settling in North Carolina to be closer to her family.
She became a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in High Point, North Carolina, where she faithfully served as a Deacon. The church is recognized today as a historic institution with more than 150 years of service.
In 2016, she joined Monument of Praise Ministries, Inc. under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Kevin A. Williams where she was a faithful member. Here she previously served with dedication in the Deacons Ministry and volunteered her time assisting with administrative duties as needed for the church. Her commitment, faithfulness, and willingness to serve were a true reflection of her love for God and her church family.
She remained devoted and steadfast in her service, always willing to serve with joy whenever needed. Marion was a woman who truly embraced life. She loved to travel the world, with Italy being one of her favorite destinations. She found joy in live jazz music, discovering new places, and experiencing all that life had to offer. She devoted over 25 years of her professional life to American Express, where she was known for her strong work ethic, excellence, and commitment.
Beyond her career, Marion gave generously of her time. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross and served as a Girl Scout Leader, always willing to support others in times of need.
In 2015, she extended her compassion even further by becoming a foster parent, offering guidance, stability, and love during pivotal moments in the lives of children. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Christine and Beverly Streater; her brothers, Steven and Ronald Streater; her baby sister, Angela Streater; and her son-in-law, Freddie Peterson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lavera Smith (Anthony) and Tijuana Peterson; her grandchildren, Coresha Wright, Corey Wright Jr., Jordan Jackson, Cortaysia Wright, Ali Jackson, Christopher Smith, Corey Smith, Michael Smith, and Isaiah Smith; her great-grandchildren, Cincere Wright, DeAngelo Smith, Cairo Mobley, Cato Wright, Zamir Smith, and Mylah Smith; her beloved younger sister, Diane Cooper; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
