The Family will receive friends from the hours of 4pm - 8pm at the daughter's home located at 1379 Blair St, Thomasville. Mamie Ruth Charles, affectionately known as Mommy, Momma, Grandma, Gigi or Mother Charles, peacefully transitioned from this life on March 26, 2025, in the comfort of her home in Thomasville, NC, at the age of 87.

Mamie Ruth Charles was born in Ellerbe, NC, on September 29, 1937. She was the cherished daughter of Magdalene Wright (Terry-Bowden), Robert Bowden, and stepfather James Wright. Mamie married James A. McLeod, and together, they were blessed with four beautiful children. She later moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she dedicated over 40 years of service to the NYC Human Resources Department of Social Services. She touched countless lives through her work, offering compassion and support to those in need. After retiring, she returned to North Carolina in 2002 to be closer to her children, a testament to the deep love and devotion she held for her family.

Mamie was a woman of faith, kindness, and unwavering love. For 23 years, she was a devoted member of Total Restoration Church in Thomasville, NC, where she found great joy in worship and fellowship. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in her children: Rick McLeod (Angela), Ronny McLeod (Latrenda), and Pamela Ateeb, along with 11 grandchildren, Michael Sinkler (Tara), Brandon Sinkler, Chasiti Simpson (Dwayne), Erica Dobbs (William), Rika Owens, Philip Smith (Jocelyn), Jamel Smith, Terrence Ateeb (Santana), Toni Ateeb, Santrisa McLeod, Ronica McLeod and 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and nurtured with boundless love.

One of Mamie’s favorite sayings was: “I asked God for Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding.” Her faith was her foundation, and she lived by the words of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Mamie is now reunited in new life with her beloved daughter Linda Faye Sinkler (Paul), her parents Magdalene Wright (Terry-Bowden), Robert Bowden, and stepfather James Wright, as well as her sister Donna Rene and brother, Robert Bowden, Jr Though we grieve her absence, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, surrounded by those who welcomed her home. Mamie Ruth Charles lived a life of grace, strength, and love. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched. Though she may be gone from our sight, she will forever remain in our hearts. “Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your
