Lawrence Thompson

June 16, 1934 — December 10, 2017

Mr. Lawrence Charles “L.C.” Thompson departed this life on Sunday December 10, 2017.  He was born to the late James Arthur Thompson and Elizabeth Williams Thompson in Bennettsville, SC.  As a youth, L.C. attended Sandy Grove Baptist Church in Bennettsville, SC where he accepted Christ.  When he was 19 years old, L.C. met and married his wife, Cora Lee Cook Thompson; from their union they were blessed with seven sons.

He relocated to High Point, NC and was employed with Marsh Furniture Company for over 30 years.  He later was employed with the City of High Point, where he retired.  Then finally he operated his own lawn care service.  L.C. was a faithful member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board.  He was such a dedicated member that when he was not able to drive to church, he would walk there every Sunday.  L.C. loved the Lord and gospel singing.  He started and managed his own gospel group, The Seven Bright Stars.

In addition to his parents, L.C. was also preceded in death by seven siblings James A. Thompson Jr., Fletcher Thompson, Luther Thompson, Thomas J. Thompson, Clara M. Thompson, Martha T. Henderson, Norine T. Bostic and one grandson, Rasheen Thompson.

L. C. leaves to cherish his memories to his wife of 64 years, Cora Lee Thompson of the home; seven sons, Charles (Sylvia) Thompson, of Hampton, VA, Charles (Margaret) Cook, John Thompson, Richard (Elaine) Thompson, Billy (Cynthia) Thompson all of High Point, NC, Stevie (Natasha) Thompson of Greensboro, NC and Gary Thompson of High Point, NC; three sisters, Patsy Thompson of Arizona, Elizabeth T.
