John Edward Robinson was born on October 19, 1949, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to parents, Catherine Young and Perry Robinson. He was raised by his parents and grew up with his seven siblings. In 1971, he relocated to High Point, North Carolina, with his family members.
He began an early career as a cab driver for Red Bird Cab Company. During this period, he grew in popularity with local residents and was widely known for his generosity, sharp sense of humor, humility, and genuinely down-to-earth nature. In the late 1990s, he began his career with Swift Transportation as a truck driver, fulfilling a longtime personal desire. He eventually took on a new position as a forklift driver, which would remain his occupation for over 25 years with the same company. He was an observant member of All About Jesus Home Church and would also attend Williams Memorial.
He is remembered for his consistent endeavors towards personal care which he demonstrated by consistently exercising and maintaining a long term membership with Planet Fitness. He was proud of his body building results, often flexing his arm muscles and doing pushups. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, genuine concern for others, being a hard-worker and great provider to his family, and for his magnetic humor and charm.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings, David Lee Robinson Nathaniel Robinson, Willy Earl Robinson, Dorothy Jean Robinson, Shirley Jones, and J.P. Robinson.
He leaves cherished memories to his loving wife, Adaline Rivers; son, Edward Perry; daughter, Jasmine Mallory and son-in-law, Clement; one living sister residing in High Point, NC, Mary Robinson; step-children, Quintana Smith and Steve Perry; godchildren, Courtney and Robert Dowdy; 16 grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Denise, Eugene, Kwame Reed, Maxine, Shirley, Sharon, Kristina Robinson, Angela, Joyce Michelle Jones, Brianna and Tyana Miles, Jaquan Watson, Jerome, Timothy, and Timdarius Thurston, Taqaiul and Tacoe Johnson, Chaunika Preistley, Renita Butler, Ladarius, David, Clifford, Contessa, and Christina Jones; and other relatives and friends.
