Mrs. Georgia Young was born on May 2, 1940, in Greenwood County, South Carolina, to the late Mary Brown Talbert and John T. Chiles. She peacefully departed this life on September 14, 2026. Years later, Georgia re-married to David Young who also preceded her in death.
Georgia lived a rich, fulfilling, and accomplished life. She earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in 1976 and began a vocational nursing program the following year. Her commitment to caring for others led her to become a registered nurse. She continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1988 and completing additional studies in psychiatric nursing in 1995. Georgia's professional journey included serving as a head nurse at Elmhurst Hospital. She later worked at Rikers Island Correctional Facility, where she remained until her retirement. Georgia was equally devoted to her faith. She faithfully served as a deaconess and was recognized in 2008 with a plaque honoring her service and commitment to God. For more than 60 years, she was a devoted member of Antioch First Baptist Church. Affectionately known as "Sweet Georgia" and "Georgia Peach," Georgia had a vibrant personality and many talents.
She was a wonderful cook who was especially known for her delicious collard greens and sweet potato pies. As much as she loved to cook, she also loved to eat. She enjoyed honey mustard pretzels, White Castle meals, trips to the bingo hall, and visits to 7-Eleven to purchase her favorite scratch-offs. Georgia was a woman of many gifts. She was a singer, a talented rapper, and a published author.
She enjoyed life, brought laughter to those around her, and left lasting memories in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
