Geneva Brown

April 21, 1935 — November 20, 2020

Geneva Williams Brown, age 85, departed this earthly life unexpectedly on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at WFBMC-High Point Medical Center.Mrs. Geneva, Ma, or Grandma, as she was called, was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina, on April 21, 1935, to the late Boyd Williams, Sr., and Aimee Gibson Williams. Geneva accepted the Lord into her life at an early age and was a long-time member of New Zion AME Church. She was married to the late Ulysses Doug Brown.  From their union eight children were born. Geneva had a special gift which allowed her to sense situations before it happened. Mrs. Geneva loved people, especially her family. She was not a stranger to the old or the young. She touched so many lives with her humor, lasting impressions, and her straight to the point opinions. Geneva never held back words to say or sugar-coated anything, whether you liked it or not! She was a remarkable cook. Geneva had a gift to create new recipes so everyone would eat. After her health declined, her traditional meals and treats were passed down to her daughter Sandra and two of her great-grands MeMe and BeBe. Geneva shared most of her time with her enormous family, especially during holidays, birthdays, or those just because visits. Geneva lived a ful-filling life, and she taught her family how to enjoy life as well. Even while dealing with minor health issues, Geneva would dance and she loved old school music. She would hang out as long as she could with her family, even if she sat on her porch and just admired them.  Then she would say, “Look at the family I started.”Geneva’s light will continue to shine through her family, and we know this is not a goodbye but a “See you later.”In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two children, Carolyn Brown McRae and James Mickey Brown; eight siblings, Luther Williams, AnnaBee W. Glover, R.C. Williams, Freddie Williams, Teodore Williams, Annie Kate McLain, Theo Williams and Clevester Williams.Geneva leaves to cherish memories to: two daughters, Sandra Brown McLean and Annie Brown Wright; four sons, James Calvin Brown, John Calvin Brown, Ernest Preston (Angela) Brown, and Jerry Brown; two granddaughters she raised as her own, Carla Brown and Shalonda McRae; 30 grandchildren; 49 grandchildren; numerous great-greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Savannah Kollock and Minnie McInnis; one brother, John Walter (Louise) Williams; daughter-in-law, Mildred Brown; godchildren she helped raise, Curtis Alford, Bryant Hailey, James Edward, and Pam; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.
