Dorothy Spencer

Dorothy Long Benton Spencer, age 79 died on May 1, 2017 at Hospice Home at High Point.  She was born in Whiteville, NC on July 16, 1937.  She was one of ten children to Roy Bennie Long and Viola Hathaway Long.

Dorothy graduated from Whiteville High School.  She was married to James Linwood Benton in Whiteville in 1955.  He passed away in 1978.  They moved to High Point in 1956 and Dorothy resided here ever since.

She worked at Hayworth Roll and Panel Company for 28 years, then retired after 12 years with Cloverleaf Grocery Store.  She was a member of English Road Baptist Church.

Dorothy was preceded in death two sisters, Janette Tyree and Virgie Stock; three brothers, J.D. Long, David Long and Joseph Long.

She is survived by one son, James Terry Benton of High Point; one grandson, Corey Benton; two sisters, Ethel Hinson of Trinity, NC and Fay Hewitt of Whiteville, NC; two brothers, Carl Long and Jerry Long both of Whiteville, NC.

A memorial service will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at People’s Funeral Chapel, 1404 W. English Rd.  Rev. Jack Rose will be officiating.  Memorials was maybe made to Hospice Home at High Point, 1801 Westchester Drive.
