Barbara Jean Tyson

Aug 29, 1961 — Jun 21, 2026

Thomasville

With grieving hearts, yet anchored by an unshakeable faith in our heavenly Father, we celebrate the beautiful life of our beloved sister, Barbara Jean Tyson, who was called to her eternal rest on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Born on August 29, 1961, in High Point, NC, to the late Philip and Mary Tyson, Barbara was a light in the lives of those around her. She joins those who preceded her in death, including her dear brothers, Henry "Flip" Tyson, Douglas "Jug" Tyson, and Bernie Tyson. A proud product of the Guilford County Public Schools, she carried the lessons of her youth with her, graduating from Ragsdale High School in Jamestown.

Barbara possessed a rare gift for cooking, turning simple meals into gatherings of love and laughter. Her culinary skills were more than a craft; they were a way she nurtured her community. Beyond the kitchen, she embraced life’s adventures through travel and the joy of meeting new people. She found particular delight in shopping and the bustling energy of the High Point Furniture Market, a tradition she cherished every Fall and Spring.

Though her kitchen now stands quiet—the appliances that once prepared her signature ribs, crispy chicken wings, and savory fish resting in silence—the warmth of her spirit remains vibrant in our memories.

Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love and connection. Cherishing her memory are her sisters, Trena Joann Owens (Gary) and Mary Tyson McCray; her brothers, Philip Tyson, Jr., Byron McRae (Joann), and Larry Tyson (Phyllis); as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends who were like family.

As we hold Barbara in our hearts, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, forever cherished, deeply missed, and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to have known her.

The family of Barbara Jean Tyson extends our deepest gratitude for the prayers, calls, visits, and the outpouring of love you have shared with us during this difficult time. Your presence has brought us comfort and reminded us of the beauty of community.

We offer a special thank you to the ICU Team at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in High Point and Winston-Salem. Your compassionate care provided such grace and dignity during Barbara’s final days, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

We also wish to express our profound appreciation to Phyllis Tyson, Clara Love, Lummie Tuluenga, and Cedric Hairston. Thank you for your unwavering patience, kindness, and the countless hours you dedicated to ensuring Barbara could attend her appointments. Your devotion was a true gift to her and to all of us.
