Barbara A. Thorton was born September 3, 1943, in Augusta, GA., and raised in Mount Vernon, NY., only child born to the late Moses and Juanita Crawford.
She was educated in Mount Vernon School system, where she met and married the late William R. Thorton, Sr., from this union were born six children.
Barbara's love for the Lord began at an early age. She later was baptized and joined Macedonia BAptist Church of Mount Vernon, NY.
While living in Mount Vernon Babrbara became an active member of the Eastern Star Chapter #8, where she became a Worthy Matron.
Barbara loved to cook and entertain family and friends, her hospitality was revered by all whom were blessed to experience it. Along with her jovial disposition she had a heart of gold. Her love was like no other. "Bobby" had a way of making you feel special, comforted, and deserving of her utmost affection. Barbara was full-time housewife and mother for many years and opened a day-care within her home and raised many children. She was the true definition of BIG MAMA! After many years of being a loving wife and mother she decided to branch out into the Medical Field working as a Unit Secretary for a Neurologist, while working a few years as a unit secretary Barbara discovered her true passion was being at home with her family. She retired and moved to Greensboro, NC (2005) where she joined the Red Hats and Sunflower Club. Her love for life and people was displayed by her natural style and grace. Her mission in life was sharing her love through thoughtfulness and acts of kindness. Anyone she knew was at some time or another a recipient of her many beautiful cards. Barbara shed a special light to our world and will leave an everlasting glow.
She leaves to mourn children: Desiree Oliver (Cavartus Oliver), Yancy Thorton, Daughter-in-law, Annette Thorton, Grandchildren, Nicole Chisolm (Solomon Chisolm), Bryce Thorton, Sierra Thorton, Kareem Thorton Jr., Aniya Thorton, Toni Bells, Rhonda Maddox, great grandchildren, Taylor Santana, Kylie Anderson, La 'Carmen Thorton, Brother-in-law, Arthur Thorton, Sister-in-law, Marie Thorton, Special daughter and son, Kim and Mitchell Lane; Special cousin, Dorothy Brown, Sister by love, Alice Pinkett, a host of relatives and friends
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Thorton, Sr., her parents, Moses and Juanita Crawford; Four children, William Thorton Jr., Anitra Thorton, Alisha Thorton-Knight, and Kareem Thorton Sr.
