Barbara Hayes

September 20, 1955 — June 8, 2020

On Monday, June 8, 2020, Mrs. Barbara N. Withers Hayes (64 years old) was called home to be with the Lord! Barbara was born on September 20, 1955 to Joe Louis Withers and the late Dorothy Naomi Withers in High Point, North Carolina. She was one of eight children; six girls and two boys.

She attended and graduated in 1973 from High Point Central High School in High Point, North Carolina.

Barbara married David Lee Hayes Jr. September 25, 1976 and to that union was added 2 daughters; Keonna and Brittany and 1 son, Bryan.

Barbara was employed with Guilford County Schools, at Shadybrook Elementary as a Dietician worker. She was baptized in Jesus Name at Kings Chapel Holiness Church, Apostolic High Point, North Carolina in 1975. She served faithfully for many years in the Children’s Ministry at King’s Chapel Holiness Church Apostolic and loved to sing in the church choir.

Later, attended Bethel Apostolic Temple of High Point, North Carolina, Bishop Kelvin Cash, where she continued her faithful work in the Children’s Ministry.

Barbara was a 19-year breast cancer survivor and loved to participate in many of the Breast Cancer Survivor’s Celebrations Relay for Life! Barbara loved her family and getting together on holidays.  She would not miss an opportunity to give gifts, like Easter baskets, Valentine’s candies, cards, bears and BALLOONS, birthday presents and Christmas presents to her husband, children, grandchildren and godchildren. She loved to see all kids that came in contact with her happy! Barbara became an “angel” collector when going through her breast cancer and begin collecting angel trinkets. She was a true ANGEL herself.

Barbara was proceeded in death by her mother, Dorothy Naomi Withers and her stillbirth baby son, David Michael Hayes and her paternal grandmother, Ossie Pickens McElwee and Step-father, James “Pop” Stewart.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of forty-three (43) years: David Lee Hayes Jr. and two daughters; Keonna (Jonathan) Rorie, Brittany Hayes, and one son; Bryan (Marissa) Hayes and six grandchildren; Jonathan Hill-Rorie, Nicholas Rorie, Gabriel Rorie, Quinn Hayes, Journey Young and Jordann Young. Her father, Joe Louis Withers; Five sisters; Dollene (Winfred) Miles of Walnut Cove, NC, Debra Glover, Dawanna Covington, Penny (the late Charles) Bethea and Patty Withers all of High Point, NC; Two brothers, Rockey Withers of High Point, NC and Timothy (Lisa) Withers of Liberty Township, Ohio. Four aunts; Shirley Ann Zimmerman; Asalee Bridges, Brownie Mae Miller and Ophelia Gainey all of High Point, NC; three goddaughters, Brittany, Breonna and LaMiracle Ballard all of High Point, NC. Special friends Elder Everette and Josephine Quick, Elder William and Ella Dumas and Geraldine and Jerry Ballard all of High Point, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended relatives and dear friends.

Special recognition to the Hayworth Cancer Center, High Point, NC and Carolina Regional Heart Center, High Point, NC and caregivers.
