. We celebrate BARBARA COBIA BRAILSFORD-GREEN, affectionally known as “Mamie” to family and hometown friends. She is the daughter of the late Ossie Cobia and Virginia Black-Cobia. Barbara was born on February 12, 1956, in Summerton, SC. Barbara was also the granddaughter of the late Thomas and Lou Black. She was a member of Words of Faith Christian Center in Greensboro, NC, under the leadership of Pastor Charles Capel and First Lady Veronica Capel. She was the seventh of eight children, six of whom preceded her in death. They are Miligan Cobia, R.E. Cobia, Willie Cobia, Robert Cobia, Edna Jamison, and Leon Cobia. Also, a granddaughter, Jukiya Hayes (family angel) preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate precious memories of her: two beautiful children, Angela Hayes and Ernest Lamont Brailsford; two loving grandchildren, Shamiya Hayes and Gary Pemberton, Jr.; two supportive godsisters, Patricia Randleman and Barbara Hall; a godbrother, Paul Kelly; a caring godmother, Minister Ida Covington; two brothers, Wendell Cobia (Sylvia) of Summerton, SC, and Thomas Smith (Annie) of Sumter, SC; sisters-in-law, Ethel Cobia of Baltimore, MD, and Roberta Oliver of Wilmington, NC; many nieces and nephews, which includes Emma Boone (Clifton) of Baltimore, MD, who is the oldest of the group and was like a sister; those she helped to raise, Barbara Jamison, Linda Newsome (Edward), Diane Oliver, Raheme Jamison, Precious Jamison, Shakelia Jamison, John Scott, and Quatez Scott; many godsons and goddaughters; many grandnieces and nephews and cousins. Barbara served on many boards, including TAG, Crime Stoppers, Chamber of Commerce (Archdale), American Red Cross, and Habitat for Humanity, where she was chairman of the first home built by only women. She graduated from Scott’s Branch High School, Class of 1976, in Summerton, SC. She attended High Point College and graduated from Guilford Techincal Community College in Jamestown with a degree in Food Service Management. Barbara had a heart of gold, never met a stranger, and had much love for everyone. She had so much love for her clients, as both a caregiver and owner of catering and banquet halls.
