On September 29, 2016, Barbara peacefully entered into rest at Hospice Home of the Piedmont and began her heavenly journey. “Lair,” as she was affectionately called, was born on October 31, 1962 to the late James Squarewell and Doris Edwards in Rocky Mount, NC. She, along with her seven siblings, grew up in Nash County, where she received her education in the Nash County School System. While in Nash County, Barbara met her longtime companion Ronnie Lee Prince, who preceded her in death, and later they moved to High Point, NC. Together they had three children and seven wonderful grandchildren who were their pride and joy.
Barbara was a hardworking, loving and giving woman. She was employed many years at Vita Foam Inc. and most recently The Shannon Gray Rehabilitation & Recovery Center where she was a faithful employee. She gained many friends who were blessed by her dedication and infamous smile. This same dedication and love was undoubtedly shown to her family whom she loved dearly. Lair enjoyed laughing, having a good time, cooking, shopping, and helping others.
In addition to her parents and companion, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Timmy Edwards and James Squarewell.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Michael and Antoine Edwards of High Point, NC, one daughter Keiba (Samuel) Hairston of High Point, NC; grandchildren Charita Rivers, Deontae McCall, Denarius Edwards, DeAnthony Edwards, Serenity Barnes, Samaria Hairston, and Samuel Hairston Jr. all of High Point, NC; three sisters, Patricia and Joann Edwards of Middlesex NC, Arlene (William) Sutton of Zebulon, NC; two brothers Casey Edwards of High Point, NC, and Rufus Squarewell of Fayetteville, NC; two aunts, Betty Curmel of Wilmington, NC, Lallie Wilkins of Zebulon, NC; and one uncle, John Edwards of Wilson, NC; special brothers, Frank Prince and Walter Powell, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
