Alphonzia Augustus was born in the small historic town of Blackville in the county of Barnwell, SC to the late Ethel Duncan and Jerry Augustus Jr. on April 23, 1931.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Booker T. Augustus, Stanley Augustus and Marie Augustus.
As Blackville is known for its railroad history, rural settling and southern hospitality, Alphonzia decided to leave his childhood place of birth, having no regrets, moved to Hollywood, Florida and made this his lifelong residence without ever looking back from whence he came. Now living in Florida, he met Ethel Mae Rush, married her in 1958 and spent 53 years of marriage until the Lord called her home in 2012. Having knowledge of business matters in finance and real estate, Alphonzia was a lifelong entrepreneur in Lawn and Gardening for various businesses and individuals throughout Miami-Dade County of Florida and beyond.
Although Alphonzia was mostly a private person, a profound love of his K-9 he had an audible sense of wit and humor when surrounded by others.
Those to cherish his memory are nieces, nephews who knew him as “Unc.” includes Stevie, Celeste (Dwayne), Shelia (James), Michael, Audrey, Warren, Ron (Kendra), Rob and Sherman along with neighbors and friends.
Knowing him as Mr. Alphonzia includes Mr. Herb Franks, Basil Saunders, Ms. Angela Fox, Ms. Mosely, Mr. Mitch and Mr. Abram, whom he met late in life, shared life stories and became like brothers.
“Alphonzia your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.”
