Jason Mackey departed his earthly life on January 19, 2019, in High Point, NC. Born March 2, 1936, in Cleveland County, NC to the late Winfred Hayward Mackey, Sr. and Mary Bell Barnes Mackey. Jason was raised in Cherryville, NC where he attended John Chavis School. It was in Cherryville that he met and married Glourist “Irene” O’Neal.
The couple relocated to High Point, NC where they raised their four children. A baseball enthusiast, Jason helped coach the “Southside Dodgers” little league baseball team along with the late Issac Watson. Jason also became a member Brooks Memorial Methodist Church and later joined Memorial United Methodist Church. Jason was employed by Hayworth Roll and Panel Company where he retired after over 40 years of faithful service. An entrepreneur, Jason was well known throughout the community. He continued his lawn service well into retirement until his health began to fail.
Jason was preceded in death by his daughter, Glorist Lorraine Mackey; his grandson, Kelvin Vashard Haywood; his brothers, Willie James Mackey, Joseph Mackey, Roland “RC” Mackey, Walter “Tang” Mackey, Hayward “Junior” Mackey Jr., Cleveland “Buddy” Mackey; his sisters, Sarah Wilson, Ora Lee Laney Hayes, Pauline Mackey, Minnie Howell and Olivia Griggs; and son-in-law, Henry Lee Withers.
He is survived by daughters, Vivian L. Mackey of Morrisville, NC, Sarah Haywood-Withers of Raleigh, NC and Angela B. Mackey of Morrisville, NC; sons, Randy J. Mackey of Greensboro, NC and Felix Sherwood Borders of Ashville, NC; grandson, Hayward Mackey of Clinton, MD; great granddaughter, Angel Ankrom of Morrisville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
