Mrs. Martha “Ma” Johnson, age 100 departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her residence.

Martha Ella Brown Johnson was born in Bennettsville, SC to the late Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Ella Sainter Brown on July 11, 1916.

Mother Johnson was known as a pillar of the community.  Her commitment to service prompted a career as a housewife and a caregiver of children in her home and church.  She was a dedicated spirited leader, whose faith and perseverance have enriched the lives of her family.  Her volunteerism included numerous civic, community, faith-based organizations and the United Way of Greater High Point.

Martha Johnson was a member of Shekinah Glory Church International, where she served on the Mother’s Board, Prayer Warriors Group, Pastor’s Aide and was an official worship leader.

Martha Johnson had the privilege to witness events that most of us only read about in history books.  Her dedication to the community and faith-based service is only surpassed by her love and devotion to her family and her belated husband, Curtis Johnson.

In addition to her husband, Mother Johnson was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Lee Johnson, Lawrence Johnson; one daughter, Sarah Johnson.

She leaves cherished memories and a legacy to: her sons, Joseph Johnson, Curtis Johnson, James Earl (Sarah) Johnson, Jesse Johnson; daughters, Grace Martin, Frances ( Marty) Thomas, Lorraine Whitfield, Helen Johnson Ella (Willie) Carter and Doris (Johnny) Yates; god-daughter, Marie (David) Poche; one sister, Shadie Mobley; 37 grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren; also a special god-daughter, Ernestine Lilley, who sat with her mother every day.
